Kids and Lockdown

Day 14 Covid Campaign

Up to this week, parents were left in the dark on whether or not they were allowed to share contact between them during lockdown. Government had previously been unclear about the issue, but new regulations regarding the matter were gazetted on Tuesday the 7th of April 2020.

The new regulations now reflect that separated parents are allowed to move their children between houses during the National lockdown, provided they meet certain legal requirements.

In short, separated or divorced parents who want to move their children between them during the lockdown, will need a court order or an agreement that is registered with the family advocate, such as a parental responsibilities and rights agreement or a parenting plan.

It is important to note that the responsible parent transporting their child or children must have these documents, or a certified copy thereof, in their possession when travelling.

The movement of a child is however not permitted between households if it is known that a person in that household has come into contact with, or reasonably suspected to have come in contact with, a person known to have contracted, or suspected to have contracted Covid-19.

This is some good news for many parents sharing contact with their child, especially with the Easter weekend around the corner...let the Easter egg hunt thus continue...
